Finding horizontals and verticals in books

I thought it would be interesting to look up some examples of horizontal lines in books I am reading.

In The Photographer's Mind, there is a fine sunset image - it actually is designed to demonstrate space as a subject but caught my eye as the horizon line is very strong.

Another image is of musical notebook with a gloved hand writing -the lines of the notebook makes a backdrop to the effect of the gloved hand with no arm.

On the cover of a banking magazine, Freemen used columns (probably from the Bank of England) with a figure in a top hat.

Another example of both vertical and horizontal lines is the Shaker Box - the light is the most interesting effect but created by the presence of both horizontal and vertical lines.

A fabulous effect is Henry Fox Talbot's The Library from 1845 with about 20 books on two shelves - beautifully composed and well lit.

The image by Matthew Brady of General Robert Potter and Staff taken during the American Civil War provides many verticals with both the standing people and the trees.
