Consequently decided to join a webinar going through the product. Very useful, paradoxically by the confidence boost induced by the realization that I know most of the software, but helped in three ways:
- Extended my knowledge of how to use particular functions, such as control points.;
- Demonstrated the workflow;
- Used on some example images would not have thought would convert well to B&W, but worked well, emphasising the power of the software.
Favourite presets are High Structure Harsh and Smooth and Full Dynamic.
Use star system to add presets as favourites.
Download presets from website. Save as a file and use import when an image is open.
Use soft contrast. Amplify whites and blacks, reviewing the histogram.
Use space bar to zoom – useful with fine structure. (NB fine structure is a great tool, not used enough).
Consider colour filters adjusting strength.
Use zone to adjust brightness on one zone.(another tool not used before but simpler than thought).
Like the smart filter – allows different borders.
Use mask with control points to show the areas to be adjusted.
Homework: understand the brush tool, probably the only SEP2 tool do not understand well.
