Feedback for Assignment 1
Feedback was constructive. I chose for the reasons set out in the assignment blog to choose previously taken images. The feedback suggests that taking bespoke images for the assignment might help to explore the process – actively seeking contrasts rather than seeing them in images already taken. The hint here is that I should have been more concerned with the process rather than the interpretation. I used the difference between denotative and connotative from Barthes; feedback is that this is fine but it applies to interpretation and analysis rather than the impact of the process.
Tutor adds that technical detail and comments about approach are required, as well as looking for images that could be exhibited.
The message here is that I misunderstood the brief somewhat – I was pleased that I had found images that fitted the contrasts well from a range of images taken for the exercises. I thought the quality of image at this stage was unimportant. Wrong! I am glad this assignment is not assessed as I think the mark might be a little disappointing. As a corollary, pleased that did not spend too much time on it.
Won’t spend too much time on the detailed comments on the images. No comment was harsh though one was “uninteresting” and the image of sausages as rounded was not well received, nor was the use of Sally Lunn’s and a school dinner for sweet and sour.
Feedback on blog was good. Tutor suggested combining the learning log with the exercises and assignments blog and have now done this. Did not realise the power of labels until read a few other blogs today; with these you can set subjects so readers can just go to the relevant blogs. Saw one user had set up a password protected blog for tutor's comments - this appears to be a Wordpress function. Possible with blogger but challenging.
