Update 27 April

Have taken a different tack this week. Rereading tutor's comments has made for a bit of a wake up call. They are clearly looking for a higher standard of processing than I thought at this stage. No worries - the first assignment does not count and it was good to get it done quickly so could get a steer.

Have now decided on three changes of course:

1) Take the course more slowly. Can get a pass I am sure by hacking together some images but will this prove anything - it's a bit like running a marathon in 5 hours. I could do that tomorrow but would it prove anything?;

2) View what others are doing. Have seen a few blogs now with variable quality and imagination. One is stunning (in fact wonder quite what the author gets out of doing this course) but others are more run of the mill but several give some good ideas what to do for exercises.

3) Read and view other people's work. Magnum photos is especially good;

4) Invest in the hobby. It is some time since I bought equipment and see that many use some wide aperture lenses and flash, so I have invested in a Canon fixed 50mm lens with 1.8mm aperture. Reviews are good and it seems to be very good for low light photography. Also have acquired a Speedlite flash - this is really necessary for decent internal photography. Also bought a book on using flash.

So far have played at this a bit - now need to get serious.
